<P>Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off <MTVNLINK type="url" id="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK>'s 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again." </P><P> </P><P>That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on <a href="/news/articles/1610708/adam-allison-shine-on-idol-rock-night.jhtml">"American Idol" rock night</a> Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on <I>Rolling Stone</i> magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004. </P><P> </P><P></p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtvmusic.com:84215" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="dist=http://www.mtvmusic.com" allowFullScreen="true" AllowScriptAccess="always"></embed></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album <I>Led Zeppelin II.</i> Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon. </P><P> </P><P>For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997. </P><P> </P><P>Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. Is Rambo Coming Back? Sylvester Stallone Is Game
'The magma of Rambo is coming to the surface,' he tells MTV News.

Any day is a good day to chat with action hero Sylvester Stallone, particularly when the topic of conversation turns from the highly anticipated "Expendables" sequel to the always-anticipated "Rambo" sequels.
The last time we checked in with Stallone about the future of his famed Vietnam vet John Rambo, it seemed as though there might not be any more story to tell and that the hero needed "to stop running" and take a rest.
Thanks to our recent run-in with the main man at CinemaCon, it seems as if Rambo's rest has come to an end and we might see him rise again.
"There's a volcanic eruption [brewing]. The magma of Rambo is coming to the surface," Stallone said when asked about his thoughts on bringing the character back to the big screen.
So is there another story to tell?
"I know there is," he said definitively. "It's one thing where you lay down the final culmination of your life where you can articulate it, but also act on it where he realizes what his destiny really is," Stallone said, speaking for the character and how he might take a moment to reflect on his life and realize his work isn't finished. "It's not to be a farmer, it's not to be obscure; it's to go out in a blaze of glory in a heroic fashion. But is he really doing it for himself or is he doing it because that's just his id? That's who he is.
"I like the whole Mexican situation, what's going on down there," Stallone continued, hinting at the film's possible setting and building the plot around the real-life conflict in Mexico. "So I'm working on a formula for it right now."

And as the show returns from a month-long hiatus, Gleeks aren't the only ones anticipating a few more famous faces. As star Chris Colfer told MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet, there's plenty to look forward to when New Directions warble again January 17. </P><P> </P><P>"Well, the Michael Jackson episode ...," Colfer answered when asked about his most-anticipated upcoming episodes. "We have a Spanish episode coming up with Ricky Martin. I'm the 'White' in 'Black [or] White,' and I sing 'Ben,' that famous song he wrote for the rat." </P><P> </P><P>The rodent in question is the pet of a young boy named Danny in the 1972 film "Ben." Jackson sang a version of the theme song that appeared in the movie's closing credits and was later included on his 1972 album also named <em>Ben</em>. 'Raven' Star John Cusack On Becoming Poe: There's An App For That

It goes without saying that in order to achieve an impressive onscreen performance, an actor must enter into the mind, body, and environment of the character he or she is portraying. While fictionalized characters require imagination and innovation, historical figures depend on research and character study. And few historical individuals are more dark, complex and mysterious than Edgar Allan Poe.
MTV News recently spoke with veteran thespian John Cusack, who portrays the legendary poet and storyteller in the upcoming film "The Raven", and asked what it takes to really enter into the world of such a puzzling man.
"It's like an app, right? Like on your phone, 'Go to Darkness.' You press the Poe app," Cusack joked.
"That's sort of how the psyche works, too, in a way," he clarified. "So, I think you just try to activate it and bring it to life."
So, how did Cusack bring it to life? On top of reading Poe's works and studied his biography, healso tried to tap into his emotions.
"If you think of movies like in a dream language, then there's kind of a dream logic to it," Cusack said. "And then you just follow the feelings. You use the feelings, I think that's what it is."
"The Raven" hits theaters April 27, so fans of Poe and his stories will soon discover how Cusack brings the horror-writer back to life.

Britney Spears Nears 'X Factor' Deal
Pop star would reportedly bank $15 million to join judges' panel on Simon Cowell's reality competition.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> is closer than ever to <a href="/news/articles/1680782/britney-spears-x-factor-judge-offer.jhtml">joining "The X Factor" team</a>. </P><P> </P><P>News first broke in early March that the pop star was in negotiations to join the judges' panel on Fox's reality singing competition, and just as speculation seemed to be dying down, <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2012/04/britney-spears-nears-deal-for-the-x-factor/" target="_blank">Deadline</a> reports that Spears' team and show producers have reached agreements on several key contract details, including the star's salary. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:698603/cp~vid%3D698603%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A698603" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>It was reported that Spears was being offered $10 million for a season of the show, but the latest news is that her offer is actually closer to $15 million, which is $3 million more than Jennifer Lopez earns as a judge on "American Idol." </P><P> </P><P>Several stars — from Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey to, at one time, the late <a href="/news/articles/1679472/american-idol-voice-x-factor-simon-cowell.jhtml">Whitney Houston</a> — have reportedly been discussed as possible replacements for <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul</a>, though no deals have been announced. The buzz surrounding Spears seems to be the most reliable, as sources close to the show report that her fiancé and former agent Jason Trawick is actively negotiating the deal. </P><P> </P><P>Cowell reportedly reached out to Spears personally to gauge her interest in joining the show and has been singing her praises publicly, saying in a March conference call with reporters that he is "fascinated" by Spears and believes work on "The X Factor" will be easy for the hardworking singer. </P><P> </P><P>"This girl has resilience. I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, ["X Factor" would be] a walk in the park," Cowell said. "I would be fascinated to hear what she has to say. She's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial. There's a reason for that." </P><P> </P><P>A point of conflict has reportedly been Cowell's insistence that Spears sign a two-year contract with the show, while she wants the option of opting out after just one season if she feels the gig is not a good fit. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album. </P><P> </P><P>The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. "We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. No one supported Gary Ross more than "Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson, who called Ross "my guy" right before the director exited stage left.
Well, with Ross out and Francis Lawrence in to direct the franchise's second film, "Catching Fire," the actor is just hoping that the same magic can be captured without Ross there waving the wand.
"I have spoken to Gary. And I literally don't think I've talked to somebody on the phone and they've sounded more upset than he was," Hutcherson told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. "He was so disappointed that he couldn't do it. Unfortunately, with the scheduling and the timing, he just didn't have the time to write the script and prep it the way he wants to, the way his work ethic allows him to be as great as he is, which made me extremely sad.
"Gary, I think, brought so much to the movie, and he created that whole world that was so close to the book and so perfect in so many ways that it's going to be hard for Francis to come in, for sure," he added. "But Francis is extremely talented and everyone I've talked to says he's the best guy in the world. So I think he's going to bring a lot. I haven't spoken to Francis. I've spoken to Gary."
Given how epic "The Hunger Games" is, Lawrence makes for an interesting choice. He's no stranger to making visuals that go big or go home, whether as a music video director who has created show-stopping clips for the likes of Beyoncé and Britney Spears or as a film director ("I Am Legend," "Water for Elephants"). With Ross already having created a certain vision for the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' books, Hutcherson is hoping there's a way to meld Lawrence's with it.
"I think he'll stay true to the first one. Gary's already established a tone and a theme and kind of a whole world. So I think Francis will operate within that. I hope so," he said. "At the same time, if I were directing, I'd want to bring my own thing to it. So I hope he brings something different to it, which I'm sure he will."

The Killers' Sax Player Tommy Marth Commits Suicide
Tommy Marth, a saxophonist who played with indie pop group The Killers, was found dead in his Las Vegas home Monday. According to local newspaper Las Vegas Weekly, the official cause of death has been ruled suicide. Marth, who is survived by his parents and two siblings, was 33 years old.

Fans of the classic late-'60s soap "Dark Shadows" were surprised when the trailer for the film made it seem like director Tim Burton had reimagined his subject matter as a farcical comedy rather than the dark, Gothic soap opera fans remembered. Since then, there have been whispers that the film is far darker than it is being marketed, so we went straight to the source to find out what is really up with the buzzed-about film.
At CinemaCon 2012, MTV News asked Burton if he felt the trailer is reflective of his film, which hits theaters May 11, and while he admits there are humorous elements to the film, he said he doesn't believe it can be classified as a comedy.
"Everything that's in [the trailer] is in the movie," Burton told MTV News. "It's a funny film for me, because I never considered it a comedy. I was always trying to capture the weird vibe of 'Dark Shadows,' which is a weird thing to try to capture. It was a weird daytime soap opera."
Burton, a longtime "Shadows" fan who said he "recalls the show affectionately," said that whatever humor is in the film is there because the situation Barnabas is in when he is unearthed 200 years after being buried is innately humorous.
"It's not like I'm being campy with it or anything," Burton said. "The guy's been locked in a box for 200 years, and [when] he comes out ... something weird is going to happen."
As for comparisons to his previous films, most notably "Edward Scissorhands," Burton said he can see the link, but confessed that there are many subtle differences between Barnabas Collins and any other character he's put onscreen.
"Edward Scissorhands was more of a naive character. Barnabas has been around the block a few times," Burton told MTV News with a laugh. "There is something about a character who doesn't quite fit into the world, which is similar, just in this case, he's been around a long time."
Burton also gave us up-to-date news on one project many of his biggest fans are very excited for: "Beetlejuice 2." The film is being written by "Shadows" scribe Seth Grahame-Smith, and for Burton, that's as far as things have gotten.
"He's working away on it," the director said of Grahame-Smith, "so I'm just waiting to see what he does."
As for whether we can expect him to make a return to "Batman," the film franchise he started with the original 1989 blockbuster, he was straight to the point, saying, "I think I have enough on my plate."

Lane Garrison Charged with Domestic Violence
Having allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend in public, Lane Garrison could be facing time behind bars after the District Attorney’s Office announced he's charged the actor with one count of misdemeanor battery.
The "Prison Break" star is said to have engaged in a physical altercation with ex-girlfriend/Playboy Playmate Ashley Mattingly in the lobby of her Beverly Hills apartment last week and, when a witness approached the couple, Garrison took off.
The 31-year-old is potentially facing a parole violation after a vehicular manslaughter conviction in 2007, with TMZ reporting that he's currently being held without bail.
The incident occurred just days after Lane and Ashley broke up, as Miss Mattingly tweeted on Saturday, "sooo happy to be single again from @LaneGarrison9 bye bye :) hahahaha".
Garrison is slated for an arraignment at the Beverly Hills Superior Court on Friday (April 27) and could be forced to serve one year in county jail and pay $2,000 in fines.

Crashing through the sky comes the fearful cry of Cobra, but I feel no fear at the laser-blasting terrorist organization's coming arrival. For one, we all know the Joes have this battle in the bag. For another, there's a second "G.I. Joe" movie heading our way in just two short months, and by the looks of it, it's the movie that fans have always wanted. Bring on Zartan, Firefly and the rest of them, I say!
Cobra Commander and his minions are out in full force in the brand-new "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" trailer that arrived Tuesday (April 24) courtesy of Machinima. Featuring an introduction from leading man Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the two-and-a-half-minute trailer embraces everything we loved about that first "Retaliation" spot and ups the ante considerably. Keep reading for the five scenes from the trailer we were most excited to see.
The Duke of Hazard
"Just don't kill Duke. That's really my only request," MTV.com reader Adam wrote in response to the arrival of the first "Retaliation" trailer some months ago. Unfortunately, Adam, I don't think your wish will be granted: Rumors have long been swirling about the early exit of Channing Tatum's "Rise of Cobra" hero, and his limited appearance in the "Retaliation" trailer only fuels that fire further. If there's a silver lining, it's that Duke appears to have grown among the Joe crowd quite a bit since last we saw him. He's got a strong relationship with Roadblock, so much so that he happily volunteers to babysit his fellow Joe's little girls for a weekend. Duke might not last long in "Retaliation," but expect his departure — however it comes — to weigh heavily on Roadblock as the film unfolds.
The Country Is at War
There's only one man who could destroy G.I. Joe in one crushing move, and the Rock voted for him. Viewers well know that the president of the United States is Zartan in disguise, using his influence to push Cobra into the public eye and assert its dominance over the globe. If you thought the rise of Cobra meant the death of the former president, however, you'd be mistaken: The trailer reveals that the real president (played by "Pirates of the Caribbean" veteran Jonathan Pryce) is still alive, if not exactly well.
Two Cases of Thin Mints
With few allies left to turn to, Roadblock takes his surviving Joes — Flint and Lady Jaye — and teams up with the reclusive General Joe Colton, the man who started it all. The hero, played by action legend Bruce Willis, has gone from complaining about his high cholesterol to demanding Girl Scout cookies in this newest trailer. And he wonders why his blood pressure is all out of whack!
London Bridge Is Falling Down
"Rise of Cobra" saw the destruction of the Eiffel Tower. It looks like London's going to undergo a similar "everything must go" sale when "Retaliation" rolls around. What, you really thought that President Zartan wanted world peace? He and the Cobra gang are behind the massive terrorist assault on the United Kingdom, and it's going to be up to Roadblock and his pals to prevent further destruction from happening.
Ninja Wrap
So. Many. Ninjas. But never enough ninjas. There is no such thing, as Snake Eyes and Jinx battling an army of sword-wielding Cobra loyalists on the side of a mountain will surely tell you. Recently, Chu revealed that a nine- to ten-minute, dialogue-free ninja battle would occur in "Retaliation," and going by the previous trailer and this latest one, it looks like this snow-covered mountain is where it's all going down. Awesome.

'Glee' Star Chris Colfer Reveals 'Message' Behind 'Struck By Lightning'
Film 'started [as] a way for me to vent out my high school annoyances,' actor tells MTV News about movie he wrote and stars in.

Move over Lea Michele: It looks like Chris Colfer is the new "Glee" star to watch. When he won a Golden Globe in 2011 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, entertainment gurus started paying attention to the guy who plays Kurt Hummel.
Colfer originally auditioned for "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy in the hopes of landing the role of Artie, a paraplegic nerd with insane rapping skills. The part went to Kevin McHale, but Murphy liked Colfer so much that he created the role of Kurt specifically for him. The charisma that won Murphy over has since stolen the hearts of audiences, and the actor has used his fame to launch his own side projects — including "Struck by Lightning," a feature premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Colfer wrote the screenplay and stars in the film as Carson Phillips, a driven high school senior and promising journalist focused on making it in New York. His plan is to attend his dream college and become editor of The New Yorker, but things change abruptly when he is — you guessed it — struck by lightning.
"The project kind of started [as] a way for me to vent out my high school annoyances with my classmates and my teachers and the town that I lived in," Colfer told MTV News. "It just kept evolving, evolving ... [until] I just kind of said to myself, 'I really need to make this into a movie someday.' "
Even though the story is loosely based on Colfer's high school experience, he tells us that it is not autobiographical. "Carson is a very, very driven kid who really just wants to get out of his town and is waiting for his life to begin in New York City," he said. "That's his goal. Meanwhile, he's stuck in this really small town with these people whose aspirations are becoming a fireman, becoming a nurse, becoming principal of the school, and he has a hard time with it. And I think he has a really important message for kids to hear these days."
It's a message that can now be heard thanks to the phenomenon of the Fox musical series. "['Glee'] kind of created a possibility for me to do this," the actor revealed. "Making movies, writing stuff, has always been my plan. Always, always, always. And sometimes I laugh when people are surprised that I do that because it's always been so much a passion for me to get into someday.
"I feel like every actor has a shelf life, and luckily I'm relevant now because I'm on 'Glee' and there [are] just a lot of things I want to get done before my shelf life is over," he added, laughing. "So I'm just trying to get everything on my bucket list off while I can."
We'd say he's off to a good start. "Struck by Lightning" will continue playing at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, April 27, and Sunday, April 29. Rush tickets will be available. The movie is set to hit theaters later this year.
