Getting into the Halloween spirit with her daughter, Halle Berry and Nahla visited Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in Los Angeles on Tuesday (October 30).
Wearing a brown and black sleeveless top, black pants, and black boots, the "Cloud Atlas" star joined in the fun by zipping down the slide with her face-painted 4-year-old.
Recently, the 46-year-old actress expressed an interest to play activist Angela Davis on the big screen. In the latest issue of InStyle magazine, Halle says, "Her story is so fascinating. I would love to bring it to the screen. I would pick her brain to have a better understanding of her affiliation with the Black Panthers and that period from the 1960s."
Last year, Ms. Berry was approached by the Queen of Soul herself to play Aretha Franklin in a biopic, but she graciously declined, telling E!, "If I could carry a tune, I’d consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can’t do her justice.”

<P>On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.</P><P>The albums featured in the new series are the <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="515">Rolling Stones</MTVNLINK>' <i>Let It Bleed,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="993">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK>'s <i>IV,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="973">David Bowie</MTVNLINK>'s <i>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="503245">Mike Oldfield</MTVNLINK>'s <i>Tubular Bells,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="977">The Clash</MTVNLINK>'s <i>London Calling,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="267">New Order</MTVNLINK>'s <i>Power, Corruption and Lies,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="758">Primal Scream</MTVNLINK>'s <i>Screamadelica,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1118">Pink Floyd</MTVNLINK>'s <i>The Division Bell,</i> <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1041">Blur</MTVNLINK>'s <i>Parklife</i> and — the most recent album on to make the cut — <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1111141">Coldplay</MTVNLINK>'s <i>A Rush of Blood to the Head.</i></P><P>Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.</P><P>Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.</P><P>"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."</P><P>Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."</P><P>"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</P>

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery
<P>Officially, <a href="/news/articles/1617945/janes-addiction-killers-turn-up-heat-on-lollapaloozas-last-day.jhtml">Lollapalooza ended Sunday night</a> in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1244299">the Killers</MTVNLINK> and <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="702">Jane's Addiction</MTVNLINK>. Unofficially, it ended <i>very</i> early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.</P><P>To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="986">Foo Fighters</MTVNLINK> frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="503135">Queens of the Stone Age</MTVNLINK> mastermind Josh Homme and <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="993">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK> legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.</P><P>According to <a href="http://blogs.suntimes.com/derogatis/2009/08/them_crooked_vultures_at_metro.html" target="_blank">some reports</a>, the Vultures actually turned <i>down</i> Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.</P><P>Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called <i>Never Deserved the Future,</i> and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).</P><P>The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — <a href="http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/2009/08/concert-review-them-crooked-vultures-at-metro.html" target="_blank"><i>Chicago Tribune</i></a> critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the <i>Chicago Sun-Times'</i> Jim DeRogatis.</P><P>It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.</P><P>Early Monday, a <a href="http://twitter.com/crookedvultures" target="_blank">Crooked Vultures Twitter account</a>, which had previously posted links to the band's <a href="http://www.themcrookedvultures.com/" target="_blank">official-looking Web site</a> and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a <i>Deserve the Future</i> T-shirt. Cost: $30.</P>

And she describes her judging style as tough but loving.</P><P>"Well, you know, I try to be positive as much as I can," she explained to MTV News on Sunday, just before she jetted to Miami for the show's boot camp. "But sometimes you've just got to tell people that singing is not for them. When I hear a good singer, sometimes I critique them so that they can be better. And it's not that they're bad."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Demi Lovato Explains Why She Comes Off As The 'Toughest' 'X Factor' Judge" id="vid:818024" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>In fact, Lovato sometimes will go to bat for a singer despite what the other judges have to say. "But then when I hear someone that I absolutely love or someone that I believe in, I'll stick up for them, even if everyone else votes no," she said. "I'm really honest on the show and sometimes I come off as the toughest judge. I guess you can say I speak my mind."</P><P>So, which of those other judges does she agree with most at the end of the day? "It's unpredictable. Like sometimes I cannot see what Simon sees in the people he puts through. And same with Britney," she explained. "I'm like, 'Britney, what are you thinking?' But there are more times I relate with Britney [better] than Simon, actually. Maybe because we're the two girls on the show."</P><P>While her focus on set is to judge the show, when asked if she and Britney have talked about making any music together, she said, "It would be an honor, but no plans yet."</P><P>Lovato, who in addition to judging the show is also on her <a href="/news/articles/1688267/demi-lovato-holmdel-nj-show.jhtml">summer tour</a>, added that she has no regrets about signing on. "Everyone's amazing," she said. "It's awesome."</P><P>On Monday, all four judges appeared at the Television Critics Association summer press tour via video conference and chatted about the next season of the show, which kicks off on September 12.</P><P>"I'm not going to lie about this," Cowell said of Spears during the press conference, according to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/tca-x-factor-britney-spears-demi-lovato-simon-cowell-353120" target="_blank"><i>The Hollywood Reporter</a>.</i> "I always said the no. 1 person I wanted on one of these shows was Britney. She's intriguing. You see a different side to her and she's a really great judge. ... Britney is quite mean, which you'll soon discover."</P><P>"I think it's just based on myself and who I am," Spears responded. The entire eastern seaboard of the USA has been impacted by Hurricane Sandy’s wrath, and that includes late night host Jimmy Kimmel.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live” star was looking forward to returning to his hometown of Brooklyn, NY for a week of shows, but it looks like that won’t be happening at this point.
Earlier today, Kimmel tweeted, “Though it pains us to do it, JKLfrom #Brooklyn tonight is cancelled. I’m disappointed too, but we want you to be safe.”
Meanwhile, an insider added that Jimmy “didn’t want anyone getting hurt trying to get [to the show].” As for the rest of the week, they’ll take it “day by day.”

Making a surprise move from runner-up to the pole position, "Argo" finds itself atop the pack at the box office to kick off the dismal weekend of October 26-28, 2012 .
The Ben Affleck starring/directed thriller - which is about Tony Mendez's account of the rescue of six U.S. diplomats during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis - garnered estimated sales of $3.9 million on Friday with a $13.2 million projected take during its third weekend of release.
In its first week in the box office, the thriller "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D" comes in at number 2 grossing $3.5 million on Friday. The Michael J. Basset directed movie is estimated to take in $9.4 million.
Filling out the top five at the box office in earmarked earnings are the just-released Tom Hanks and Halle Berry starring drama/mystery "Cloud Atlas" ($10.2 million), followed by last weekend's top earner "Paranormal Activity 4" ($9.1 million) in fourth and the Olivier Megaton directed crime drama "Taken 2" rounding out the list in fifth ($8.2 million).

The 39-year-old rocked a brown bob with gaunt makeup as she filmed scenes with John Turturro for “Fading Gigolo.”
In a recent interview with W Magazine, Johnny Depp’s former wife talked about her view of an afterlife.
"I’d like to believe in it. It’s better to think there’s something else after than nothing, you know? But I don’t believe it exists, I’d like to think it exists. I think I’d love to be a tree. A strong one, like the baobab. Is it the baobab that has the really strong roots? It seems indestructible,” Vanessa said.

Her husband is in the final days of his bid for re-election, and Michelle Obama showed up at “ Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night (October 25) to give him a boost.
The First Lady of the United States of America shared that her daughters Sasha and Malia gave President Obama some great advice before giving a recent address.
Michelle said the girls begged him to try not to look bored. “That was the instruction before he gave his speech at the DNC. We’re backstage and they’re playing around and they’re laughing and they’re giggling and he said, ‘Just act like you’re listening to me!’”
“The whole time, I’m clapping and looking over at them and I’m like, ‘Smile. Smile.’ and they’re like, ‘Oh, OK,’” she added.
Mrs. Obama also urged folks to vote early if possible- “You don’t know what’s going to happen on Election Day. Babysitters, you might be sick, car breaks down.”
As for her opinion on President Obama’s pursuits, Michelle shared, “You know, even when Barack talked about entering politics, I was very hesitant. But then I thought about the kind of person that I would want to lead the country, and I felt that to deny him that right would be selfish. So we’re in it.”
